"I’ve used MakeMKV a few times..."
I’ve used MakeMKV a few times and when it works, it’s fine, but it freezes or just closes on me way too often. It’s especially frustrating in the middle of ripping a disc because you’re left wondering if you need to start over. I don’t know if it’s a bug or something with my setup, but something definitely feels off with the stability...

"Setup was way more annoying than it should’ve been"
I tried installing makemkv the download part was totally fine, but the actual setup was more confusing than I expected. I ended up digging around the forum just to figure out how to get it working, which made me stop and think, how is this okay? It’s not like it was impossible, but it was definitely more frustrating than it needed to be

"Surprisingly didn’t mess up my chapters or metadata"
I was expecting the usual nonsense where my chapters or metadata somehow get scrambled, because that seems to happen more often than it should. But this actually kept everything intact, so I’ll give credit where it’s due.

"It does what I needed, mostly just..."
It does what I needed, mostly just keeping my rips at a decent size so my drive doesn’t get eaten up so fast. Saves disk space, which is the main thing I was wanting, so yeah, I’m happy with it.

"Seems safe, but I’m still bit cautious"
I tried using makemkv.com and my antivirus didn’t show any malware warning or anything. The site does look kind of old, so I double checked download before installing it. It worked fine for me, but I’d still recommend scanning file first, just to be safe.

I’d say this is a good value, but only if it really fits how you plan to use it. I don’t want to overhype it, because it may not be worth it for everyone. For my situation, it made sense and felt like a fair deal

"Way faster than I thought, especially lately"
I’ve been using makemkv for a bit, but what really sold me was the last batch of Blu-rays I ripped this week. They finished way quicker than I expected, and I didn’t have to keep checking on it the whole time. I just let it run in the background and my PC still felt totally usable. I’m sure the drive makes a difference, but based on how smooth it’s been recently, I’m really happy with it

The community answers did end up helping, but it took me a while to dig through different threads before I found the fixes I needed. I felt a little pressured because I just wanted to get the issue sorted quickly, so having to search around so much was kind of frustrating.

It decrypted a few of my Blu-rays just fine, but some of the newer discs wouldn’t work. It’s not bad or anything, just kinda hit or miss for me lol.

At first, I thought everything was going horribly wrong because my disc failed, and I was ready to spiral. But MakeMKV actually showed super clear error messages and diagnostics, which made it obvious the problem was my drive and not the app. I tried again with another drive and boom, it worked perfectly. Such a simple tool, zero unnecessary drama. I was ridiculously relieved and super happy with it

"Rips DVDs easily"
I’ve used it a bunch of times now and it’s worked without any real hassle. Maybe not the flashiest thing ever, but as long as it gets the DVD ripped properly, I’m happy

"Honestly, it just works"
I grabbed this on a whim to rip my Blu-rays, and wow, no regrets. So far I haven’t had a single failed rip, which is kind of surprising. It just does the job without making me mess around with anything.

"Pretty easy to use overall!!"
I was able to rip my DVD without too much trouble!! The interface does look a bit old-school, but after clicking around for a minute, it was simple enough to figure out.

"Activation was quick and easy"
I bought the license in the evening after messing around with a couple discs I’d been meaning to back up for ages, and the whole activation process was painless. The key showed up fast, I copied and pasted it into makemkv, and it worked right away. No strange extra steps or confusing instructions, which I appreciated because I really wasn’t in the mood to troubleshoot anything at that point

"Impressive how often it picks the wrong title"
It does manage to scan my discs quickly, so I’ll give it that, but somehow it keeps choosing the wrong title way too often. I end up having to double-check everything myself, which kind of defeats the whole point.

"Clear docs, but a little spread out"
i mean, MakeMKV was helpful when I was trying to get everything set up and figure out the basic ripping options. The docs were clear enough that I could follow along without much trouble, even for things I don’t mess with very often.
The only reason I’d knock it down to 4 stars is that some of the info felt a bit scattered, so I had to jump between a few pages to find what I needed. Still, overall it got the job done and was definitely useful

"Great when it works, but some 4K discs take extra effort"
In my experience, MakeMKV handles a lot of my 4K UHD discs without any real issues, and when it works, it’s great. The problem is that a few newer discs weren’t nearly as smooth and took some extra tweaking before I could get anywhere. So my take is: if you’re okay with a little trial and error, especially since it’s free/beta software, it’s worth using. I just wouldn’t expect every disc to be a quick, simple rip

"Works, but playback can be soooo annoying"
MakeMKV did rip my discs like it was supposed to, so I can’t really complain there. But the files don’t always play nice with my media server or certain players, which got frustrating. I ended up messing with settings and re-converting stuff just to get things working right. It’s fiiine overall, just not as smooth or easy as I was hoping.
